Walking Around NTU

When people say "practice makes progress", it might be annoying - but in this case, it's true! The quickest way to learn is to grab a few new friends & walk aimlessly. However, don't worry, we got you - here's some tips & tricks (& even videos) to make the learning curve a little less steep.

NAVIGATIONAL GUIDANCE

Can't understand the acronyms & numbers on your timetable?

Fret not, NTU's official virtual interactive map is here for you: NTU Maps.

Simply type in the mysterious acronym (eg. LHN-TR+11), & the map will show you the full name of the room, the building & floor it is in, & even directions on how to get there.

However, we totally understand that it can still be confusing to walk around, especially with terms like "North Spine" & "The Hive" being thrown around. Read on below for more help with all that.

There's also this handy document to help you decode all the acronyms for your tutorial rooms and lecture theatres into blocks you can actually find signboards for!

NS & SS

Most of the academic buildings in NTU are in either North Spine (NS) or South Spine (SS). These are also known as the North Academic Complex and South Academic Complex. They also have their own blocks. You can identify which spine a block is in by the letter in front of the block number. For example, "S4" is in SS, and "N1" is in NS.

PLEASE NOTE THAT TUTORIAL ROOM NUMBERS CAN BE REPEATED IN DIFFERENT BUILDINGS!!!

While Lecture Theatre (LT) numbers are not repeated, Tutorial Rooms (TR) ARE. There is a "TR 21" in The Arc, in another block in NS, and in The Hive - that's three separate TR 21s. Be CAREFUL when checking your classroom venue. Read on for more on The Arc & The Hive.

The main part (the "spine") of NS & SS holds many of the LTs in NTU.

NS

North Spine is home to many schools, such as ASE, MAE & more. In general, it's the STEM schools that are located here (although NOT ALL STEM faculties are here).

A significant building in NS is The Arc, AKA LHN (Learning Hub North) in your timetables. This place is used mainly for ICC module tutorials. However, it also has PDRs, which are study rooms you can book (under StudentLink, through "Others").

NIE is just across from NS.

Places like SBS and Nanyang Auditorium bridge both NS & SS.

Most halls are nearer to NS (Other than H4&5)

SS

South Spine is, in general, where the Arts degrees can be found (other than ADM which is opposite Hall 8). However, SPMS, CCEB & EEE are in squarely SS territory, & LKCSOM (Experimental Medicine Building) is technically in the SS area too.

EEE, CoHASS & NBS are the true blue bulk of SS, while WKWSCI, SPMS & CCEB are standalone buildings but still very close by/pretty much attached anyway.

The Hive is the southern counterpart of The Arc. It is known as LHS in your timetable. Many classes here are also ICC tutorials. It is a photogenic spot that attracts even tourists & wedding shoots with its iconic Dim Sum basket looks.

The halls nearest to SS are Halls 4 & 5.

One can walk from SS to NS in around 10 minutes, and they are well-connected through a few routes. Here's two videos of one such route (for this route, the ONE lift used is taken from L1 to B3 & vice versa)

GETTING TO SRC

To get to SRC, you can take campus shuttles to anywhere near Hall 2 or Hall 6. From there, it'll be a really short walk in to SRC.

You can also walk to SRC by walking to Hall 2.
