Air Con & Fridge

Want to cool off in hall? Well, you aren’t alone. But there’s some things to note before you start buying fridges or blasting away the A/C.

To use a fridge in hall, it has to be declared, and you’ll have to pay a fixed monthly fee to cover electricity costs. For A/C, NTU has just switched to an A/C mobile app pay-per-use system. Read on for more!

DECLARATION

In SOME halls, like Hall 14/15, the socket for fridges is locked, and will only be unlocked for units which have declared ownership of a fridge. However, this is not the case in many halls.

That said, in all halls, Hall Office requires any fridge to be declared. These fridges will receive a sticker to show their status.

Fridges must be declared at least 1 day before use.

Failure to declare will incur a double charge of $160.

The max fridge size is 60 by 60 by 60cm.

During the semester, you may receive an email titled “Notification of Fridge Declaration and Payment”. Although it says “Your action is required”, this is a mass email, and if you have no fridge, you can ignore it.

FEES

The monthly fee is fixed at $80 per sem.

GETTING A FRIDGE

If you’re looking for a cheap deal, look out on NTU marketplace for second hand fridges! Prices can get quite low ($40-60) during the end of sem and the end of summer (when everyone is moving out).

Air Conditioning

All halls with A/C in NTU have now switched to a mobile app. This will be used both to pay for A/C (on an hourly basis when you use it) and as a remote to control the A/C.

There will be a room-specific QR code to scan and pair your app to your room’s A/C.
