S/U (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory) Option

Worried about your grades? Want to take an intimidating BDE module?

Well, there's sometimes a way out!

The S/U Option allows you to declare certain modules as basically pass (Satisfactory) or Fail (Unsatisfactory). EITHER way, that module will then have no effect on your GPA. If declared as Unsatisfactory, however, the AU from the module will not count towards fulfilling degree requirements. For more info, read on below.

What can I S/U?

Students enrolled from AY21/22 onwards can S/U BDE courses.

For students enrolled in AY20/21 and earlier, you can S/U UE courses.

For students enrolled from AY21/22 onwards, you can S/U up to 12AU of Second Major courses and up to 6AU of Minor courses.

What if you badly need to S/U a MPE module? Not all hope is lost - refer to our section on reclassification for a potential escape route.

How much can I S/U?

Your S/U quota differs based on your programme length. 

For all students in 3 and 4 year programmes, you have up to 12AU of S/U.

However, students Biomedical Sciences Programmes have 9AU of S/U.

Students with direct admission to a 4 year programme have 9AU of S/U.
